Welcome.
It is the start of something new. Another blog on the limitless world wide web. Wow, who’d of thunk it, hey?
Why Paper Dolls, Bunsen Burners and Unicycles? Why not LOL. Oh, and the family voted for this title, over some other rather clever titles, if I do say so myself.
I’m, Lisa. I’m a 43 year old, single mama to five amazing, imperfect children. I love Jesus and have claimed Him as my personal Lord and Saviour, for just about 17 years now!! I have been home educating my family for the last 7+ years. The older two boys have graduated from Mama’s school, and are fulfilling the next step to transition from home to their next thing. We are Canadians, and proud to be so. We live in Quebec, but our hearts are forever in Nova Scotia. Someday, we are hoping to live in Nova Scotia again, so our bodies and our hearts can be in the same place LOL.
Let me introduce my family:
Paper Dolls eludes to my dear 8 year old daughter, Keara. She absolutely loves all things girlie, most especially dolls and babies of any kind. I’m “grandma” to, Ruby, Lily, Janey, Marianna and Mary. In a world where Keara is surrounded, nearly 24/7, by all things boy, she grows where she’s planted as a beautiful girl. She shines as the consummate example of what femininity, modesty, and grace should and could be. She is laughter, pink, lace, ribbons, bows, long golden hair and girlie giggles. She melts my heart and raises the fierce protectiveness of her four older brothers. She is best friends with a nerd, her brother, Keigan Michael. She is my gift, just as her brothers are, but in such a sweet girlie package, it warms my heart so much. She is everything this funny, pink, lace, ribbons and bows woman could have asked for in a daughter.
Bunsen Burners? I have two self-proclaimed “Nerds”, for sons. They’re quite pleased with that ‘nerd’ tag. One even designed his own LED belt, with a battery pack, which says “N E R D” in bright fluorescent green lights. He’s even worn this belt out in public! The other, for fun, at 10 years of age, sat down to learn to make straight lines curved – and he did. He taught himself about Parabolic Equations and Graphs, and now fills my desk with examples of his handiwork. This is what they do for fun! Corbin is 19.5, and his mini-me is Keigan Michael, 10. Keigan Michael believes the sun rises and sets on his ‘hero’ Corbin. They have a strong, close bond, considering there is 9 years between them in age. They love all things science, nature, books and computers. Oh and throw in Rubiks Cubes, free-running, diving team, swim team, parkour and unicycles, and you’ve got my very unique and unusual nerdy lads.
So you’re thinking, ‘Aha! So that’s what she means by unicycles.’ You’d be wrong.
The Unicycles? Now they would be my other two sons. They don’t fit into any real mold. They are unique, just like riding a unicycle. They spin their wheel, and move by their own steam, without the need for brakes, gears, or even chains (or so they believe!). They aren’t the norm,or the status quo.
One son is a strong, silent, mostly (but not always) introvert. He’s tough, and even grumpy, on the outside, think prickly pear. Why a pear, because he’s a total mushy mush on the inside (but don’t tell him I told you, okay?!). Izaac is 17.5 years. He aspires to be a wood craftsman, with a sideline of landscape engineer thrown in, just to make him totally undefinable! He needs action. He can’t handle being idle. He works hard and is reliable and dependable – unless you ask him to do dishes. He likes man’s work, raking, mowing, chopping, fixing, sawing – whatever. If it requires tools, he’s your guy. Think Tim the Tool-Man, and that’s Izaac. His downside? One has to do some real work, to get through his prickly pear outside to see all that goodness in him. He’s worth the work it takes to get there though.
The other unicycle is my son, Denver, 15, (nearly 16). He is a totally frustrated farmer! He is a country boy, living in the random chaotic life of an urban existence. He wears his cowboy hat, overalls and plaid shirts to town, church, Dad’s place, friends, walking, skateboarding – nearly everywhere and everything he is in. He carries around his farmer bible, “Barnyard In Your Backyard”, everywhere. He longs to raise goats, chickens and alpacas. He constantly tries to sweet talk me into moving “Out in the country, so I can get some land and raise some goats, Mum.” He’s a case though. Easily hurt, deep in his emotions, spits fire before he remembers reason, loves deeply and forever – even though he forgets all that at times. I never do though. He’s like living with a human roller coaster – a thrill, a chill and a hair-raising experience from sun-up to sun-down, nearly every day.
We are six people – one family – hoping, praying, learning, living, loving, and sometimes failing at all of it.
Welcome to a little slice of our life!
Lisa
So nice to “meet” you all!
Welcome to the world of blogging!!! I love the descriptions of your children- makes me want to know them! How about a nice long post about Mum?
Love,
Nicole
a long post about me … hmmmm . . .
What would I chat about? Think. Think. Think.

“Corbin is 19.5, and his mini-me is Keigan Michael, 10. Keigan Michael believes the sun rises and sets on his ‘hero’ Corbin. They have a strong, close bond, considering there is 11 years between them in age.”
Ok, either their ages are incorrect or the 11 years is incorrect ::giggle:: I see 9.5 years between ‘em
I like your new blog!
yep you are right. I goofed. All fixed though.
